Terms that come up around the DISH services: the team’s own vocabulary, and the upstream systems that feed data into it.

The systems in Upstream systems and domains belong to other teams. Entries here are short on purpose — enough to follow a conversation, with a pointer to the owning team for anything load-bearing.

Large Molecule Drug Discovery and Small Molecule Drug Discovery. Groupings of research work, not systems.

Upstream systems and domains

PSI (gRED) — Protein Sciences Informatics. A former gRED program, roughly 2016–2024, reorganized since. The name persists as shorthand for the LMDD product ecosystem rather than any one system: PARS, ProSE, Nautilus, GRASS, TaPIR, Penguin, BioMosaic, and Salesforce (becoming Gazelle).

PCI (xRED) — Preclinical Imaging. A blanket term for imaging data produced before clinical-stage development, not a single system.

LIMS (industry-wide) — Laboratory Information Management System. Software that tracks samples, automates test workflows, and holds the resulting data. Internal instances include ProSE, Boomerang, Posey, and Orchestra, alongside vendor products.

SMDI (gRED) — Small Molecule Database Informatics. A web application suite rather than one system: legacy small-molecule registration, which mirrors pRED’s IRCI registration, plus the daily functions chemistry groups run on. In conversation "SMDI" often names any single one of those functions. TODO: link the SMDI overview deck.

"Smitty" is not a system. It is a mistranscription of SMDI or SMDD that spread through auto-generated meeting notes.

How these reach DISH

The two source boxes in the Service Hub diagram stand for the systems above: On-prem servers feeds Bifrost, and Other data sources feeds DISH Snowflake. SMDI, for one, runs on an on-prem Oracle database.

Which upstream systems land in each path, and by what route. Until that is written down, both boxes stay generic and a reader cannot tell whether their system is already covered.
